Jimmie Lankford, Head Coach, Varsity
Coach Jimmie Lankford holds a NSCAA National and Advanced National Diploma in addition to a USSF diploma. His career Texas High School record is an impressive 236-59-31. Coach Lankford was named Texas Region 1 Coach of the year for 2004-05, 2005-06 2007-08, and Texas Region II Coach of the year 2009-10. 2010-11. In 2005-06, 2007-08 and 2010-11, Coach Lankford was named the National Federation of High Schools State Coach of the Year. In 2008 and 2011, Coach Lankford was Named by the NSCAA as a finalist for National Coach of the Year. Coach Lankford was chosen as District Coach of the Year 4 times. He holds an overall playoff record of 38-7. His teams have made the playoffs every year he has coached since 2004. Coach Lankford has won 3 State championships as a Head Coach and was the Runner up 1 time. Several of his teams finished the season ranked #1 in State with many also in the top 5 Nationally. Coach Lankford played collegiate soccer at Fort Lewis College in Colorado. Coach Lankford and the love of his life, Patti, have 5 children, Aaron, Taran, Daniel, Jamie and Madison.
Becca Sawers, Assistant Coach, Junior Varsity
Coach Sawers has been teaching and coaching for 10 years, spending five years in South Carolina and five years in Texas. She holds a US Soccer National D License. With 9 years as an assistant and 1 year as a head coach, helping coach each of her teams to playoffs. She played soccer collegiately at Malone University in Canton, Ohio, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education with concentrations in Math and Science. Coach Sawers grew up with 4 brothers and 1 sister and loves to travel.
Michael Birdwell, Assistant Coach, Junior Varsity-Navy
Coach Michael Birdwell most recently served as the Offensive Coordinator and Head Powerlifting coach at Keller Timber Creek. He is starting his 24th year in education and is excited to be a part of the winning traditions at Wakeland HS. He currently serves as the Passing Game Coordinator in football, will coach the JV2 team for the girls' soccer program, and teaches World Geography. Coach Birdwell played collegiate football and ran track at Howard Payne University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in American History. He also holds a master's degree in educational leadership from Stephen F. Austin University. His wife, Bethany, is the principal at the Early Childhood School in Frisco ISD. They have 2 daughters, McKinley and Kellan.
